Twitter Adds Bitcoin Emoji: Dorsey’s Latest Show of Support for BTC

In a tweet, Dorsey also mentioned Unicode, which is the consortium that manages the character standards. This seems to be an attempt to suggest that Unicode does the same thing.

The introduction of the Bitcoin Emoji has caused quite the stir on crypto Twitter. Changpeng Zhao (chief executive officer at cryptocurrency exchange Binance) was one of the high-profile Crypto Twitterites who tweeted in support of the new feature. Binance’s official Twitter account urged users to tweet with the hashtag in order to make it trend.

Many other Crypto Twitterites joined the fun, including Lightning Network’s Elizabeth Stark and TRON chief executive Justin Sun.

However, despite all the efforts of Bitcoin hashtaggers the term wasn’t trending on Twitter at press. However, data from BitInfoCharts shows that there was a spike on February 2nd in Bitcoin hashtag usage. A brief spike in #Bitcoin usage may have led to an abrupt rise in BTC above $9,500 at 02:00 GMT on February 3. The Bitcoin price was approximately $9,400 at press time.
